OCTOBER 3 : THE HISTORY OF THE HAMPSTEAD REHABILITATION CENTRE by Margot Way

The history of the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre presentation will cover the site’s evolution from a cattle paddock to the Metropolitan Infectious Diseases Hospital, then the Northfield Wards of Royal Adelaide Hospital, and finally the Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre.

Also it will include the types of diseases treated at the Centre, the patient experience, and providing insights into the daily life and work environment within the premises.

Speaker: Margot Way is manager of the CALHN (Central Adelaide Local Health Network) Health Museum of South Australia and has been with the museum for almost 20 years. Her particular interest is the former North Terrace Royal Adelaide Hospital. The museum is responsible for preserving the history of institutions within the Central Adelaide Local Health Network, including, the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital, SA Pathology, SA Dental, Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre, and Glenside Hospital. The collection comprises over 20,000 objects and has offices and workrooms at Hampstead, TQEH, and Glenside, with the main office
and display area located at Hampstead.
