February 6: ECHOES OF EXPLORATION: COLONEL LIGHT’S CAMPSITE REDISCOVERED AT RAPID BAY by Taylor
The discovery of artefacts at Rapid Bay now identifies, for the first time, the precise position of the occupation site of the SA Colonisation Commissioners’ ‘First Expedition’. Taylor says “The items were found incidentally, hence the serendipitous discovery as I did not set out to find these artefacts but rather stumbled upon one after another the first time the site was searched in 2019. This was the reason for diverting me to digging up their history and their origination.”
About Taylor (prefers to be known as just Taylor): Has a strong passion for history and metal detecting which has led to discovering stories and relics of the past. When it comes to metal detecting, each target is a thrilling moment of possibility, and approaches each new find with the eagerness of someone on the brink of a major discovery. ‘History is beneath our feet, it is for all walks of life, for everyone’.
