JUNE 5: THE DEFINITIVE RULEBOOK: SA Sporting Stories – Presented by Malcolm Ashwood

‘The book isn’t about the rules – I was stupid enough to quote a rule to a umpire when I was much younger (having been an umpire and returning to umpiring later in life) and the nickname-Rulebook stuck).’

Ashwood has interviewed 40 sports folk including Tim Weatherald on the Bali bombing, Chris Grigg on MND – Alan Stringer on depression, and the humorous Grenville Dietrich. Other sports folk covered are Ross Dillon talking about his tragedies and triumphs. Ross was chosen to sit with and entertain the Royal family in 1972 and has remained friends with Princess Anne in particular ever since. Ken Cunningham has a remarkable story with overcoming his nervousness and stutter to become the first sports broadcaster-talkback presenter on radio in the country. (Book will be available at $30)

Malcolm Ashwood is a self-professed ‘sports history nut’. He runs Adelaide University Football Club past players group and holds functions in Sydney and Melbourne each season. He has written game reports for the Almanac which evolved into interviewing sports individuals writing not only about their career but life in general and it really show how every person has a story.
