COVID-19 Special Bulletin
We are reaching out to keep you informed in light of the worldwide COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic response. As always, the wellbeing of our visitors, patrons, team members and volunteers are our highest priority.
At this time, The History Trust of South Australia’s management are in consultation with government stakeholders to determine the best way forward. We are proceeding according to best practice advice from the Australian and South Australian governments – as well as state and national health services.
As a precautionary measure, we are suspending all education and public programs until further notice at the History Trust of SA and its four museums. This includes the History Festival Program Launch, the Talking History lecture series and all public and education programs at the National Motor Museum, South Australian Maritime Museum, Migration Museum and Centre of Democracy.
With regard to South Australia’s History Festival (May 2020) we are evaluating the best course of action and will release an update as soon as possible.
All current school bookings for term 1 will be rescheduled to terms 3 and 4.
The museums will remain open to the public as we recognise the important role they play in communities in times of uncertainty.
While our museums remain open at this stage, the following precautionary measures have been undertaken to reduce risk:
- Increased cleaning and signage that encourages hygienic practices including handwashing and provision of additional hand sanitation stations in the museums.
- HTSA is encouraging team members to engage in social distancing, reducing physical contact when greeting others.
- HTSA has reinforced standard employee health practices, including sending employees home and encouraging employees who are unwell to stay home if their demonstrated health symptoms could impact upon colleagues or visitors.
- HTSA is aware that minimising the spread of germs and illness is critical and encourages patrons who are feeling unwell to wait until they are well enough to visit our museums.
If you are seeking information on COVID-19, visit www.health.gov.au or call the Australian Government Department of Health Coronavirus Information Line on 1800 020 080.
We are closely monitoring the situation on an hourly basis and will immediately advise the public through our social media channels of any changes.
Thank you for your understanding. Take care.
Kind regards,
Greg Mackie OAM
Chief Executive Officer
